Technical Associate, Data2x

Position Overview

Data2X is a collaborative technical and advocacy platform dedicated to improving the quality, availability, and use of gender data to make a practical difference in the lives of women and girls worldwide. We work with UN agencies, governments, civil society, academics, and the private sector to close gender data gaps, promote expanded and unbiased gender data collection, and use gender data to improve policies, strategies, and decision-making. There has been increasing attention to gender data, and some increase in dedicated funding for gender data and statistics. However, there is work to be done to match donor priorities and investments with an increase in production, analysis, and use of gender data at country, regional, and global levels.

We are seeking an individual with knowledge of relevant subject areas (statistics, economics or other quantitative subject) and with experience in project management, preferably in a global development context at the multilateral, regional, or country level. The Associate will support the work of the Technical Manager to manage and provide feedback on the expanding portfolio of programmatic work at Data2X, currently encompassing projects in women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, civil registration and vital statistics, and gender and digital data.

This position will report to the Technical Manager, Data2X and work closely with other members of the Data2X team.

Essential Functions

  • Support Technical Manager with project coordination including building and tracking monitoring and evaluation frameworks, drafting of project documents, coordination with stakeholders etc. Over time, this may evolve into the Associate taking on lead management of particular projects relevant to his/her background and dependent on expertise.
  • Conduct background research for briefs, papers, and other knowledge products such as blogs and events. Some light data analysis work may be required.
  • Coordinate with Communications and Advocacy functions of Data2X to ensure that technical products and activities are clearly communicated and meet advocacy goals.
  • Support planning for future projects and activities.

Selection Criteria

  • Graduate degree in statistics, economics, or other quantitative field preferred. Some knowledge of/ background in gender issues is also an asset.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in a related field, or combination of work experience and education.
  • Project management skills.
  • Research and writing skills.
  • Basic data analysis skills, with some experience in Stata, SPSS, R, or other similar programs.
  • Experience working with multilateral, regional, or country stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel if required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
