Position Overview

Family Planning 2030 (FP2030) is a global partnership of governments, civil society, multilateral organizations, donors, private sector, and researchers committed to supporting the rights of women and girls who wish to use contraception. Our vision is a future where women and girls everywhere have the freedom and ability to lead healthy lives, make their own informed decisions about using contraception and having children, and participate as equals in society and its development.

Since our founding in 2012, much has been achieved, but more remains to be done. The global family planning community agreed that the gains of the last nine years should be sustained by extending this pivotal partnership. Through a global consultation, stakeholders from around the world provided their input on the future of family planning. Together, the community created a shared vision for 2030 that builds on progress achieved to date, adapts the partnership in response to the lessons of the first nine years and positions us to achieve the future women and girls around the world are asking for.

The future structure of FP2030 includes five regional hubs: North America and Europe; North, West and Central Africa; East and Southern Africa; Asia and the Pacific; and Latin America and the Caribbean. The hubs will be hosted by NGOs in five cities where the hubs will be located. The creation of these regional hubs is the key element of FP2030’s new structure, which will be put in place in 2022.

Under the supervision of the Advocacy and Partnerships Director, the Strategic Partnerships Manager is responsible for providing strategic guidance to FP2030 to build an inclusive movement through a diverse stakeholder base across sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender, development, and related sectors. S/he will have an expert understanding of FP/SRHR space and deep experience in building relationships within the health and development sectors.

The Strategic Partnerships Manager will support the mobilization of commitments from donors and non-governmental partners and help to build overall momentum around the FP2030 partnership.

This position is based in Washington DC or US remote

Essential Functions

Technical Leadership and Knowledge Management

  • Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of the strategic partnerships’ portfolio within the FP2030/NAE hub
  • Oversee finalization, implementation, and socialization of the new FP2030 partnership strategy.
  • In collaboration with senior leadership and regional hubs, support efforts to broaden the FP2030 partner base to include additional climate adaptation, biodiversity, resilience, reproductive justice, climate justice, and other actors
  • In close collaboration with the Exec and AP teams, support the management and coordination of the Donor Engagement Group
  • Lead mobilization of donor and NGA commitments (in collaboration with regional hubs) and help design and implement a self-reporting process on commitments and accountability for non-governmental stakeholders and donor governments
  • Strengthen partnerships with GFF, GEF, UHC2030, PMNCH, WD, ICFP, and other global partnerships.
  • Support senior leadership, regional hubs, and the private sector engagement consultant to map partners, mobilize commitments and develop a roadmap to advance private sector engagement in the FP2030 partnership
  • In close collaboration with HIPs Advisor and the AP team, coordinate the PPFP/PAFP Steering Committee
  • In collaboration with the AP team and regional hubs, coordinate the HIV-FP Integration COP
  • In close collaboration with the AP team, develop new, diverse population focused partnerships including (but not limited to) persons with disabilities and LGBTI groups
  • In collaboration with the AY Advisor and regional hubs, support the implementation of the We Trust You(th) campaign and strengthen global youth partnerships.
  • In collaboration with the Gender Advisor and regional hubs, lead efforts to strengthen engagement of faith partners, including the coordination of the faith and FP working group

Engagement with Partners and External Relations

  • Strengthen alliances with diverse partners and stakeholders in alignment with FP2030 vision framework
  • Seek opportunities to advance family planning agenda in global development, humanitarian, HIV, climate change and gender agendas, particularly with a diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice lens
  • Represent FP2030 at external events, meetings and on coalitions, as assigned or as agreed to in consultation with the Director, Advocacy and Partnerships, including hosting events at CSW, UNGA etc.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Director, Advocacy and Partnerships on proactively positioning FP2030 in relevant global SRHR/development dialogues

Strategic Planning and Programmatic Oversight

  • Ensure proper documentation, tracking, and monitoring of the advocacy and accountability work plan
  • Report on relevant activities to FP2030 funders and senior leadership on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborate with regional hub staff and other staff as needed to advance advocacy and accountability work across the partnership
  • Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to utilize the proper templates accordingly. (As applicable to the role)
  • Draft and review agreements and maintain an understanding of all agreement terms and applicable flow-downs, consulting with UNF’s finance/contracts team as needed. (As applicable to the role)
  • Attend training sessions provided by UNF’s contracts team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF’s current policies and procedures. (As applicable to the role)
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF’s Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports. (As applicable to the role)
  • Other duties as assigned

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public health, international development, communications, or other directly related field required
  • Master’s degree in public policy, public health, international development, communications, or other directly related field preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience, with project management, advocacy and coalition building, and strategic communications expertise
  • Significant prior experience working in high level partnership building, business development (especially for bilateral donors), and multi-sector engagement/advocacy
  • Demonstrable advocacy skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate well with diverse audiences ranging from in-country CSOs to high level donors and country representatives.
  • Strong oral, written, editorial and presentation skills
  • Team player with adaptable and pragmatic approach to work, able to work independently as well as with a team
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills and the ability to meet deadlines and deliver objectives on time despite time constraints and pressure situations
  • Ability to think strategically and help drive projects from inception to implementation
  • Professional background in country or regional level work required
  •  Advanced knowledge of and proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Fluent in English. Proficiency in French preferred
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
