Position Overview
The Officer of Donor Communications serves as lead content creator and project manager, overseeing a portfolio of projects including marketing materials and collateral, newsletters, event materials, stewardship projects, acknowledgment letters, emails, and more. The Officer of Donor Communications will ensure that all donor-facing materials meet the needs of the intended constituents, support internal and external donor related projects, and implement Investor Relation’s donor communication strategy. The Officer will support the development of proposals, reports, concept papers, and foundation grants as needed.
The Officer will work closely with teams across the UN Foundation, including Programs, Alliances, Initiatives, Operations, Finance, and IT teams. The Officer will report directly to Sr. Director, Fundraising Strategy & Engagement with a dotted line to the Sr. Director of Integrated Communication for Public Affairs.
This position is based in Washington, DC or remote.
Essential Functions
- Develop cohesive and collaborative donor engagement and stewardship strategies
- Write and deliver communication materials for stewardship and reinvestment
- Ensure donors remain apprised of the positive impact of their investment, thereby increasing the possibility of subsequent, significant investments
- Collaborate with Public Affairs, Fundraising teams to produce and maintain a suite of materials that can be used throughout the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardships phases of fundraising
- Support Integrated Development team by working across multi-disciplinary teams with a focus on translating programming to demonstrate the impact of donor dollars.
- Support fundraising pipeline development through the creation of a library of communication materials and proposals.
- Write and deliver communication materials for fundraising proposals, developing and updating Foundation’s proposals and pitches into winning propositions
- Work with [Public Affairs, Fundraising teams] to build in funder considerations and simpler story telling
- Articulate The Foundation’s fundraising priorities and stewardship goals to creative partners to ensure donor materials reflect the Foundation’s overall strategy and identity
- Serve as project manager, overseeing the timely production and delivery of creative materials
- Design graphics and templates for smaller creative needs (e.g., one-pagers, email announcements, website graphics)
- Creating and establishing systems and processes for timely, accurate communications pieces—work across departments to establish a standing calendar for creating materials based on established fundraising cycles and known Program cycles
- Manage the production and distribution of digital donor communications, including newsletters, interest emails, and social media posts
- Communicates regularly with fundraisers on donor activities, special needs, issues, and concerns to maintain a strong donor management system at UNF. Liaises between teams to ensure a smooth flow of communication
- Works as a member of interdepartmental teams to ensure effective and efficient donor communications at UNF
- Provides support to the Integrated Development and Finance teams as related to donor communications needs and priorities
- Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to utilize the proper templates accordingly. (As applicable to the role)
- Draft and review agreements and maintain an understanding of all agreement terms and applicable flow-downs, consulting with UNF’s finance/contracts team as needed. (As applicable to the role)
- Attend training sessions provided by UNF’s contracts team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF’s current policies and procedures. (As applicable to the role)
- Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF’s Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports. (As applicable to the role)
- Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned
Selection Criteria
- College degree required or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum of 5 years fundraising or communications experience
- Demonstrated track record of taking technical writing and converting it into simple, compelling copy that leads to results (donations, grants, or sales)
- Strong computer skills; proficiency in a variety of design tools and PPT
- Energetic, innovative, creative self-starter, problem solver and results oriented individual
- Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and client management skills
- A “can do” attitude, integrity, and discretion
- Demonstrated ability to work with flexibility, efficiency both individually and as part of a team
- Superior organizational and time management skills; ability to track long-lead collaborative projects and meet deadlines
