Position Overview
The Senior Associate, Community Engagement, UNA-USA serves as the primary liaison between UNA-USA and its Chapters, along with paid members (outside of Young Professionals). He/she works with Chapters, Divisions, and Regions in building Chapter capacity, and developing Chapter-based membership retention and recruitment efforts. They also provide support to recruit and engage paid members serving as Members-at-Large.
This position reports to Managing Director, UNA-USA and is based in Washington D.C. (hybrid schedule).
Essential Functions
Chapter Support
Serves as UNA-USA staff liaison to Community Chapters to support member engagement and increase Chapter capacity.
Work with the Managing Director to implement a national field strategy to maintain and expand the UNA campus chapter network.
Maintains overall chapter management reporting, including chapter information on Salesforce, online communication groups, annual reports, affiliation agreements, bylaws, and chapter forms.
Responsible for supporting the establishment of new UNA-USA Community Chapters and to transition organizing committees into active chapters.
Provides chapter updates in monthly Member Report to UNA-USA staff and National Council as needed.
Responsible for identifying, reactivating, and rejuvenating inactive chapters and supporting at-risk chapters through the provisional status process.
Monitor and maintain permanent UNA-USA files (electronic and physical) for chapters including the collection, filing and analysis of chapter year-end reports and verification of Federal tax filings.
Provide guidance to chapters seeking a separate 501(3)(c) tax filing.
Coordinate chapter requests, such as speaker needs, insurance certificates, and UNA-USA promotional materials and toolkits,
Attends chapter meetings/conferences/workshops to promote UNA-USA and to strengthen existing chapter systems as needed.
Identify and recommend best practices and resources, including webinars and training opportunities to provide informational training sessions on various topics throughout the calendar year.
Working with Associate, Communications and Digital Marketing, UNA-USA, and Senior Associate, Youth Engagement, determines content for Chapter Leader Update, a monthly communication for chapter leaders.
Establishes close working relationships with chapter leaders through contact by email, telephone, mail, and in-person visits and by participating in National Leadership Calls.
Paid Membership Support
Works with Membership & Operations Associate, UNA-USA to support registration, renewal, and payment of paid members over age 26 (who are not Young Professionals).
In collaboration with the Managing Director, UNA-USA, implements and monitors paid membership campaigns and programs.
Support initiatives and coordinate resources to nurture chapter development by paid Members-at-Large and/or encourage them to join a community chapter with a focus on target states and districts.
Events and Programs Support
Provide support as necessary, including outreach, communications, logistical assistance, speaker facilitation, or session development for UNA-USA events such as Global Engagement Summit, UNA-USA Leadership Summit, UN Day, etc.
Serve as a staff liaison for UNA-USA Affinity Group.
Serve as a staff liaison for UNA-USA National Council committees as needed.
Other
Provide logistical support for to UN conference delegations as needed.
Work with Membership Team to respond to member inquiries in a timely fashion.
Process invoices and contracts for vendors hired to support communications.
Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to utilize the proper templates accordingly. (As applicable to the role)
Draft and review agreements and maintain an understanding of all agreement terms and applicable flow-downs, consulting with UNF’s finance/contracts team as needed. (As applicable to the role)
Attend training sessions provided by UNF’s contracts team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF’s current policies and procedures.
Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF’s Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports.

Selection Criteria
Bachelor’s degree required.
3 years of experience at chapter-based organization.
Demonstrated customer service excellence.
Ability to collect and analyze data to inform decision-making process.
Background in international relations and a basic understanding of the United Nations and its agencies is preferred.
Ability to work independently and within tight time constraints.
History of successful public speaking engagements.
Ability to travel as needed.
Ability to effectively communicate and present information to senior level staff and to the public.
Excellent writing, proofreading, verbal, and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal communications and teamwork skills.
Detail-oriented with strong project and time management skills, including ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Motivated self-starter.
Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
