Hosted within the UN Foundation in Washington, DIAL is a partnership among some of the world’s biggest digital development champions, including Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
The Communications team at DIAL is in charge of designing and delivering strategic communications activities in support of advancing the organization’s objectives, mission, and work - including brand building, targeted marketing activities, content development, and media outreach. The Communications Associate, Digital assists in driving how we connect and engage with key audiences through digital channels on our research findings, to advance our policy objectives, and to promote our thought leadership on people-centered digital transformation. The role will support the team to ensure we are continuously innovating in our approach to digital communications and are best-in-class.
This is full-time temporary position with a 1-year initial term and the possibility of extension.
Essential Functions
- Assists colleagues in the Communications team and across the organization to deliver strategic digital communication activities in support of our research, advocacy and influence goals
- Assists the Communications team to nurture a human-centered approach to DIAL’s storytelling, helping with the development of a suite of brand content that demonstrates the positive impact of digital solutions on people and communities, and across key policy and global thematic priorities
- Supports the management of social media channels across DIAL’s work, including our institutional channels, GovStack, and other initiatives with guidance
- Produces social content with guidance - videos, graphics, visuals, posts, and tweets – for research and knowledge products, communities of practice, events, launches and other key moments
- Supports the design and implementation of quick informative social media campaigns, working with key colleagues across DIAL
- Supports the management of DIAL’s website and provides production and publishing support, ensuring the website is always up to date and reflects DIAL’s key priorities, messages and work
- Provides reports, insights and recommendations for improvement on the performance of our website and social media channels - and implements them with guidance and oversight from Communications team leadership
- Undertakes regular digital media monitoring and flags opportunities / trends relevant to DIAL.
- Supports digital outreach efforts and influencers, including writing tweets, posts and providing relevant content
- Provides design support, as needed, for specific initiatives around research, advocacy and country engagement efforts
- Assists in the development of materials for the purpose of training and support on digital communications to DIAL colleagues and helps build the knowledge of and capacity of communications organization-wide

Selection Criteria
- Bachelors’ degree or relevant work experience in communications, digital media, and / or journalism and media.1-3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Interested in the UN, international affairs, and / or digital transformation and emerging technologies.
- Passionate about the work they do and the impact they make.
- Growth mindset and values continuously learning.
- Dynamic, proactive, and just as comfortable working collaboratively as they are independently.
- Strong attention to detail, results-oriented and solutions-focused.
- Familiar with internet culture.
- Digital-first thinker, with strong social media skills primed to help DIAL extend its influence.
- Experience using creative software, from Adobe Creative Suite to Canva preferred, and knows how to bring simple ideas visually to life as graphics, videos or more.
- Competent writer and an avid communicator, who follows media and communication trends.
- Keen to work and grow in a diverse, international environment with a global team.
