Manager, Business Development, FP2030
FP2030 was a global partnership founded in 2012, committed to an ambitious goal: to enable 120 million additional girls and women to access and use modern contraception by 2020. Since our founding in 2012, much has been achieved, but more remains to be done. The global family planning (FP) community agreed that the gains of the last nine years should be sustained by extending this pivotal partnership. Through a global consultation, stakeholders from around the world have provided their input on the future of family planning. Together, the community created a shared vision for 2030 that builds on progress achieved to date, adapts the partnership to respond to the lessons of the first nine years, positioning FP2030 to achieve the future women and girls around the world are asking for. In recognition to the evolving global landscape for family planning (FP), the partnership is in the process of transitioning to a redesigned organizational structure for the decade ahead.
After creating a shared vision, an architecture redesign process began in mid-2019. This process defined the partnership’s future mandate, governance, and geographic structure, and identified the functions of the future Support Network. (The Support Network is the interconnected system of governance structures, Executive Directorate, and the five regional hubs supporting the family planning partnership, to include all staff.)
FP2030’s new locally-led but globally-connected structure is accompanied by a new, more intentional approach to resource mobilization. FP2030 has secured funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, and the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, and is in conversation with several other private and bilateral donors. As we build and nurture these relationships, we will concurrently identify and develop relationships with new sources of resources, to include regional philanthropists and funder networks and private sector partners.
Although we have secured a significant portion of the funds needed for the Support Network’s initial establishment, there is much more critical work remaining to be done to ensure our financial stability and success. The Manager, Business Development will play a central role in sourcing and cultivating new potential sources of resources, and in maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with current FP2030 funders.
Reporting to the Managing Director, North America and Europe Hub, the Manager, Business Development will work closely with the Executive Director and team, with the Director, Finance and Grants, and with colleagues at each of the Support Network’s five regional hubs (North, West & Central Africa; East & Southern Africa; Asia & the Pacific; Latin America & the Caribbean; and North America & Europe) around new business development for the Support Network.
This position is based in Washington, DC or U.S. remote.
Business Development Leadership
- Under the guidance of the Executive Director and the Managing Director (NAE Hub), develop a resource mobilization strategy for the FP2030 Support Network, with a focus on generating resources through identifying and building relationships with funders at the global, regional, and national levels, including private sector relationships and relationships that advance integration with the health, gender equality, and development sectors, as well as with bilateral donors and grant-making foundations, collaborating closely with FP2030 staff including regional hub teams and with key partners
- Co-lead the implementation of this strategy for FP2030, working with the Managing Director, NAE Hub, Executive Director and their team, the Director, Finance and Grants, and other colleagues across the Support Network, including:
- Identifying new business and other partnership opportunities
- Building relationships with prospective FP2030 funders
- Developing and managing proposals and other funding requests; and
- Tracking funding prospects and the status of opportunities
- Socialize private sector resource mobilization, including leveraging private sector commitment making as outlined in the private sector engagement plan, including with each FP2030 hub, and oversee its implementation, collaborating closely across the Support Network
- Collaborate with FP2030 Senior Leadership to develop a resource mobilization strategy for establishing and sustaining an FP2030 small grants mechanism; co-lead the implementation of this strategy for FP2030, working with the Managing Director, NAE Hub, Executive Director and her team, the Director, Finance and Grants, and FP2030 Hub Managing Directors
- Create and institutionalize core business development materials and processes for the FP2030 team, working closely with the FP2030 Communications team and with FP2030 Senior Leadership as appropriate
- Serve as a collaborative thought partner to each FP2030 hub as they begin to develop and implement their own resource mobilization strategies and business development processes, as applicable
- Provide capacity building support to each FP2030 hub as they build their internal fundraising capacity
- Establish and maintain robust systems for tracking funding prospects and the status of opportunities across the Support Network, if/as FP2030 hubs begin fundraising independently
- Contribute to written and verbal funder reports as needed
- Serve as a collaborative thought partner in ensuring that funder reporting messages align with and advance FP2030’s resource mobilization strategy
- Track funder requests for information, reporting deadlines, and opportunities for grant renewal or extension from current funders
- Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to utilize the proper templates accordingly. (As applicable to the role)
- Draft and review agreements and maintain an understanding of all agreement terms and applicable flow-downs, consulting with UNF’s finance/contracts team as needed. (As applicable to the role)
- Attend training sessions provided by UNF’s contracts team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF’s current policies and procedures. (As applicable to the role)
- Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF’s Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports. (As applicable to the role)

Family Planning Donor Alignment and Resource Mobilization
- Build and maintain a robust understanding of the family planning funding landscape, including current or prospective funders at the national and regional levels as well as at the global level, key trends in funding such as thematic or geographic shifts or changes in priorities, and overall trends in funding family planning available from different funder types
- Share key insights regarding the overall family planning funding landscape, including resource mobilization learnings from collaboration with Hub staff, with FP2030 partners, to include the Donor Engagement Group, to foster greater donor alignment across the sector and increase donors’ understanding of how to leverage their spending to maximize impact
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a related field preferred
- 5-7 years’ experience and demonstrated excellence in leading, writing, and coordinating business development and proposal management efforts from inception to award, ideally including experience with both bilateral and private donors
- Experience securing funding from funders in the global south preferred
- Experience in mobilizing resources from the private sector
- An interest in and passion for global health, public health, family planning, reproductive health, international development, or women’s rights issues preferred
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
- Strong partnership building and networking skills
- Experience in project management, including establishing project scope, timelines, and execution
- Entrepreneurial, with a talent for creative problem solving, perseverance, flexibility, and resilience
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated excellence working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and under tight timelines
- A self-starter able to work independently as well as member of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience in Salesforce preferred
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
- Willingness to travel (up to 5% time) with the ability to represent the organization with professionalism, diplomacy, and aplomb
